Worship
“Our Lord speaks and we listen. . . . The rhythm of our worship is from him to us, and then from us back to him. He gives his gifts, and together we receive and extol them.”
~ Norman Nagle, Introduction to Lutheran Worship
Worship at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church is historic, formal, and reverent. This means that the historic liturgy of the church is embraced and utilized without frivolity. All of the ceremonies therein are performed with the highest degree of planning and deliberation. Such ceremonies—standing, bowing, kneeling, and the like—are formal, a characteristic of the historic liturgy that emphasizes the presence of God in his word, touch, and flesh. Therefore, both pastor and congregant alike maintain an attitude of reverence in keeping with the formality. Such an attitude confesses that something of great importance is taking place within the service. Indeed, God is truly present and is serving his people. The rhythm of worship must always begin with what God does—and is doing—for his people.
